ICM Registry, the company behind the new .XXX top-level domain, on Tuesday announced the details of the Adult Performer Program, which releases more than 3,500 .XXX domain names that were initially held in reserve to protect the individual name interests of performers and personalities within the adult entertainment industry.

“We recognized early on that a significant portion of the core success of the adult industry lies with its performers,” said Vaughn Liley, sales director for ICM Registry. “We also became aware that performers do not often have registered trademarks, nor do they retain legal representation to protect their trade name."

Liley continued, "The Adult Performers Program was born from the desire to make a conscious effort to protect these individuals who are truly at the core of the adult entertainment community. We offered a similar and unprecedented protection for existing adult domain owners as a part of our Sunrise A program in September and October of last year.

"We feel that these programs, along with our Rapid Evaluation Service (RES) dispute resolution policies, are a positive step toward protecting against infringement as well as a deterrent to would be cybersquatters. The Adult Performer Program verification process is now available to 3500-plus performers and personalities whose names have been reserved in anticipation of this program."

Liley said these names will be released "only to performers and personalities who express their interest at http://www.about.xxx/performers and complete a simple identity verification process and affidavit."

ICM said that In conjunction with Name.com, these names are already pre-paid for the first 12 months (until Feb. 3, 2013) "and performers can either maintain the domains at Name.com or, if they prefer, transfer them to the registrar of their choice in the usual way. “

Lets be real here. The website www.ChristianPornstar.com is MEANT to be controversial - it was formulated by a woman who's very existence (and actions) are about as controversial as you can get.

Christian Pornstar is not a non-profit organization, it's not a company - it's primarily a free video blog with a few ideas and ideals tossed in. It's designed to make an individual THINK.

Who knows what Christian Pornstar will spawn in the future...Who knows how long it will be around...Maybe it'll spawn Christian Porn...maybe it won't (rock and roll was once deemed "the Devil's music" - well, tell that to Michael Heaven, A Christian Rock musician - I met him late one night via the Craigslist personals and we played ping-pong...honest to God). The one thing that is KNOWN however is that it's purpose is to let those who've chosen to take a walk on the wild side KNOW that Jesus Christ and God are always there for them.

There are many people who have stated that Christian Pornstar is "blasphemy". There are many people who think that the woman who created the site is evil and akin to a "vampire" or "succubus". There are still even more people who feel that the woman who created Christian Pornstar is a "pariah to the porn industry" and has "lost her damn mind".

Well, to those people - I say it's all perspective. For far too long I've listened to far too many people who have made far more mistakes than myself - and who truthfully should take a good long look in the mirror.

Today I woke up to what I perceive as threats from porn industry giant MANWIN (a non United States founded entity) requesting that I immediately remove my recent post about DareDorm.com due to my linked and sourced commentary.

I have to question as to exactly why Manwin is targeting me, with unjustified legal action against this posting when Mike South (of MikeSouth.com who is often quite accurate in his blog postings) has reported as of November 11, 2011 that Manwin has allegedly either acquired or done a deal with Reality Kings.

It appears in my view that Manwin is attempting to silence independent adult industry bloggers - possibly according to race and sex being that Mike South (who has recently written a positive blog in regards to Manwin) is a caucasion (white) male - versus myself (a black female) who hasn't jumped on the "pro-manwin" bandwagon.

Is this another instance of the porn industry threatening, harassing and attempting to intimidate women like myself who are ex pornstars who have decided to share their thoughts, opinions, views and truths about the porn industry? Considering what I went through with the PornWikiLeaks situation of which Mike South was involved in and Sean Tompkins (of whom was initially closely affiliated with Mike South in the alleged "taking down" of PornWikiLeaks), I wouldn't be surprised.

Amazing how MANWIN is a platinum plus FSC (free speech coalition) member - yet they're attempting to encroach upon my FREEDOM OF SPEECH.

Porn stars in Los Angeles will be legally required to wear condoms during film shoots after the city council voted on Tuesday to mandate their use, despite a threat by skin flick producers to leave town over the requirement.

The move comes amid persistent questions about how to enforce the health measure, which backers say will protect performers in the multibillion-dollar porn industry from contracting HIV and other diseases.

Producers complain the sight of a condom in a sex scene turns off consumers of their videos.

The Los Angeles City Council voted 9-1 on Tuesday to give final approval to the measure, proposed after the AIDS Healthcare Foundation qualified an initiative for the ballot that would have asked voters in June to mandate condoms at porn shoots as a condition of obtaining a film permit.

The city would have had to spend over $4 million to hold the election, and city officials said a decision to simply adopt the condom requirement allowed them to dodge that costly election.

The council gave preliminary approval to the measure last week, and its passage made the city the first in the nation to impose such a requirement. Most of the U.S. porn industry is based in Los Angeles.

The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal-OSHA) already requires porn performers to wear barriers, such as condoms, when they are in contact with bodily fluids.

But enforcement has been a challenge for the state. For one, the Cal-OSHA requirement is not specifically aimed at adult films, and it is openly violated within the industry, said Michael Weinstein, president of AIDS Healthcare. He has clashed with porn producers for years over the issue.

"I don't know of any other industry where people go out in public and say they're not going to follow the law," Weinstein, whose group provides care to AIDS patients, said last week.

WIDENING THE CAMPAIGN

City officials were still wrestling with how to enforce the condom mandate, which is set to go into effect in 90 days.

Paul Audley, president of FilmL.A., a nonprofit hired by the city to oversee television and film productions, said his office normally has Los Angeles police handle enforcement when problems arise with permitted shoots.

But Audley said last week that he has told city leaders he believes workers with health licenses would be best able to make sure adult film performers use condoms. He said his office and representatives from Cal-OSHA would soon meet to discuss how the new city mandate should be enforced. "No one's answered that question yet," he said.

Weinstein said, "We think it makes the most sense to job out this responsibility to an outside agency, like a nursing agency."

FilmL.A. hands out under 500 permits a year for adult movie shoots, Audley said. But some estimates put the number of adult films shot in the Los Angeles region at 50,000 a year, he said.

Not all productions need a permit -- such as those taking place in a soundstage -- and some shoots are done illegally. "We really don't have a way to tell where they may be filming illegally somewhere," Audley said.

Now that it has succeeded in having the City Council adopt the condom measure, AIDS Healthcare is widening its campaign by pushing for a November ballot initiative that would force porn producers to obtain a public health permit from Los Angeles County officials. The permit is similar to what barber shops must receive, said Ged Kenslea, a spokesman for AIDS Healthcare.

If that county measure passes, it would increase the burden on porn producers to follow state law and use condoms on sets, Kenslea said. It would also stop producers within Los Angeles city limits, including porn hub the San Fernando Valley, from moving shop to neighboring communities to avoid using condoms, Weinstein said.

Porn producers have been critical of the condom mandate.

Steven Hirsch, the co-chairman and founder of adult film company Vivid Entertainment, said his company has a "condom-optional" policy and leaves it up to performers.

"Consumers have said overwhelmingly that they would prefer to watch movies without condoms," Hirsch said last week.

While over 80 percent of the U.S. porn industry is based in Los Angeles, where performers are regularly tested for sexually transmitted diseases, productions could move to other states or countries due to the condom mandate, he said.

Sex and religion have long been perceived to be at odds, with carnal pleasures representing sin more than saintliness. Yet in recent years, a handful of savvy Christian, Jewish and Muslim entrepreneurs have embraced the notion that the two can coexist in a way that jibes with doctrine—and even glorifies traditional values by strengthening marriages.

Enter the religious sex-toy industry, which carefully markets and sells a range of sexual-pleasure products to the faithful. With the voice and disposition of a summer-camp director, Joy Wilson founded Book 22 a decade ago, when she had trouble “getting her body to respond” to her husband after their second child, and her online search for remedies yielded scandalous imagery that offended more than it helped. The pioneering site, named after the Biblical book also known as the Song of Solomon, now faces growing competition from rival vendors including Hooking Up Holy, Intimacy of Eden, and Covenant Spice.

And the industry grew exponentially this fall with the launch of the Orthodox Jewish shop Kosher Sex Toys, and last year with the Muslim vendor El Asira. The sites even enjoy the support of many community leaders. “Religious people do it like everybody else,” said David Ribner, a rabbi and sex therapist based in Israel, who works as a consultant for Kosher Sex Toys. “Why shouldn’t they have access to toys that make their lives more satisfying?”

To be clear, the “religious people” targeted are married, heterosexual religious people; pious sex-toy vendors market their products exclusively to these couples. Unlucky in love and looking for some solitary fun after morning prayers? Look elsewhere.

What happens in the heterosexual marital bed, however, should be nothing short of transcendent, say the site owners, who happily report that their holy books not only permit sexual fulfillment between partners, but require it. “If a man is unable to please a woman in bed, she can divorce him,” said Abdelaziz Aouragh, a 30-year-old Dutch Muslim businessman who founded El Asira—stressing the Islamic belief that “man and woman must reach their peak” during intercourse, and that only then is the “deed complete.”

The burgeoning niche, part of the roughly $15 billion sex-toy industry, reports that business has been steadily growing, with most sites shipping a few hundred orders per month. Clients usually find them through Google, say the owners, or a thoughtful religious leader or astute sex therapist. The vendors use many of the same distributors as secular shops, with most products made in China. Gavriel, a 25-year-old furniture salesman who owns Kosher Sex Toys (and asked that we use only his middle name) stressed in an interview, “There’s nothing wrong with having all the sex you want.”  

To an outsider, visiting the religious sites feels a bit like listening to the bleeped-out version of an explicit hip-hop song: the substance is the same, it’s just missing the X-rated details. None of the sites feature any nudity, instead relying on mannequins to display lingerie. Nor do they feature any sexy language. Kosher Sex Toys, for example, rewrites product descriptions that risk shocking its audience. (The “Butterfly Clitoris Stimulator” becomes, simply, the “Vibrating Stimulator.”) And while they don’t flaunt their holiness, they’ll occasionally rely on religious messaging to sell themselves, or perhaps put potential customers at ease. Book 22, for example, promises to “enhance the intimate life of all God’s children.”

The “piousness” of the products themselves comes down to packaging and presentation. Book 22’s Wilson, who is 22 and lives in central Oregon, repackages plastics in plain boxes and includes additional care instructions. Kosher Sex Toys’s Gavriel also removes items from offensive packaging before shipping. Meanwhile, El Asira’s Aouragh only stocks brands that arrive in tasteful and inoffensive wrappings.

Despite consistencies across the religious sites, the vendors do vary based on doctrine, audience, and each owner’s preferences. Wilson refuses to sell anal devices and condoms, not because she objects, but because her customers do. “The Catholics protested the condoms, and the evangelical Christian community is sensitive about anal sex and play,” she said. “But I’ll special order anything if people ask.”

Aouragh, who rejects the term “sex shop,” preferring to say that he’s in the business of “sexual well-being,” sells only Sharia-compliant items. Meaning: no vibrators, dildos, or drugs that claim to enhance size or use, because these items misinterpret the male form. The homepage for El Asira, which means “The Society” in Arabic, is partitioned by gender, with two ornate mosque doors—and while it carries women's lingerie and a range of massage products, oils and lubricants sell best.

Meanwhile, Kosher Sex Toys’ Gavriel won’t stock male masturbatory aids because, he says, God frowns on wasted potential, according to the Torah. However, since Judaism doesn't prohibit female self-pleasure, he carries myriad trinkets that buzz. He also proudly sells whips and drip candles; performance-enhancing pills and sprays; clear-heeled shoes and thigh-high boots; and a variety of handcuffs, restraints, and tools for cutting them off.

And at least one customer is grateful for this inventory. Yaakov, a 25-year-old ultra-Orthodox Jewish salesman from New Jersey who preferred not to use his last name, views the site as a godsend. Shortly into his marriage, he discovered that he suffered from premature ejaculation, and his therapist, who works with many Orthodox couples, prescribed him “marital aids,” and directed him to Kosher Sex Toys. Without getting into detail, Yaakov told The Daily Beast simply, “It should be considered a mitzvah to use these things.”   Of course, many religious leaders and worshipers disagree. Rabbi Avi Shafran, who works in communications at an Orthodox communal organization in New York City, said in an email that Kosher Sex Toys is “about as immodest—in the definition of the Jewish religious tradition—as one can get.” He describes Judaism's stance on sexual intimacy as “sublime” and “holy,” but believes toys taint this intention.

Indeed, navigating ingrained religious beliefs, and misconceptions, about sex and pleasure poses a continuous challenge for site owners, who have either taken it upon themselves to advise clients or enlisted the help of experts. Wilson pursued a master's degree in counseling to better help her customers. And Kosher Sex Toys keeps the rabbi and sex therapist Ribner on call as a licensed authority on both sex and scripture. Because of a lack of proper sex education, Ribner said, religious couples often suffer from misguided advice. “One couple was told that if the woman does not like sex, she should take two Tylenol and finish as quickly as possible,” he said. In his work with Kosher Sex Toys, he has advised on topics ranging from the science of erectile dysfunction to the morality of spanking a partner.

Ultimately, across religions, owners share the same lofty goal: to help fellow (married) worshipers find happiness and peace behind closed doors. “You can’t buy love and respect between a man and a woman,” said Aouragh. “But we’re trying to be creative and clever in selling it.”

When Justin Ross first showed Keith Caggiano his business plan in 2005, Caggiano thought he was joking. Inspired by a Brazilian girlfriend, Ross, a former portfolio manager at New York City hedge fund Millennium Partners, wanted to start a sex toy distribution business.

Ross eventually persuaded Caggiano, a serial entrepreneur he knew through a mutual friend, to make the leap with him, and the duo invested $120,000 in combined personal savings and a loan from Ross’s parents. Today the 20-employee Torrance (Calif.) company, which imports most of its products from China, is profitable. Ross projects $15 million in revenue this year, mostly through adult novelty retailers and online.

Screaming O's desire now is to sell through mainstream channels while maintaining its racy branding. In late 2009, Walgreens signed a licensing deal to sell one of Screaming O's brands in 7,000 drugstores. Their products, with bright, explicit packaging, are also sold through Amazon.com, Drugstore.com, and RiteAid.com, as well as stores in 27 foreign countries. “We stand right at the edge. We want to market and brand ourselves as a company that sells fun,” Ross says, “without becoming so demure" that customers overlook the products.

It’s a tricky balance to achieve. Trojan, which has sold condoms for more than eight decades, first introduced vibrators to its product line a year ago. It’s taking a low-key approach, with television commercials that feature girlfriends chuckling knowingly over their “personal massagers” and packaging designed to disappear on the grocery store conveyor belt. In contrast, with a name like Screaming O, Ross, 38, and Caggiano, 44, can hardly be accused of subtlety.

None of Monica Foster's family members have ever had any connection to (or anything to do with) the porn industry - yet their safety, privacy and security is consistently compromised by Sean Tompkins, Michael Whiteacre (aka Ari Bass) and others attached to the Los Angeles pornographic industry who openly support their activity (such as Jeff Mullen aka Will Ryder).

Is Monica Foster (along with her family members) being harassed solely because she's chosen to LEAVE the Los Angeles porn industry, rebuild her life for the better, and tell the truth about her experiences?
